Flavours: Self Believe

By Nene Rasaq

As 2015 looms ever larger, inevitably many of us will indulge in a bit of navel gazing. We will look at our flaws, faults, bad habits, and failed ambitions, and resolve to do better in the future. While we all know New Year’s resolutions are far easier to make than they are to keep, it doesn’t stop us from promising ourselves a more successful, more productive and happier year than the last one. Its not easy actually to draw up a water tight list of resolutions but I decided to offer a helping hand toward achieving that triumvirate of aims.

These are New Year’s resolutions that every man should make — and that any man can manage. I am not suggesting very specific aims; rather, these are designed to make you think about what you really want out of life and you should interpret them in a way that is appropriate to you.

Read a book:
How many great books have we all heard of, but never actually read — and perhaps even lied about reading? This year, make a point of knocking at least one title off that list. There are so many classic novels to choose from that you are bound to find something that will appeal to you. Not only will it make you more erudite, as you discover why that novel is held in such high regard (and possibly improve your vocabulary) but it may just kick-start a new enthusiasm for reading.

Fit in Fitness:
The evidence is in for fitness. Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man. Studies show that it reduces the risk of some cancers, increases longevity, helps achieve and maintain weight loss, enhances mood, lowers blood pressure, and even improves arthritis. In short, exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better.

Be your own best friend.
Talk to yourself as you would a friend — yes, really! You’d never tell a friend that they’re not good enough, pretty enough or smart enough to be loved, so why would you talk to yourself that way? Be kind to yourself and instantly you will feel the weight of the world lifted from your shoulders.

Kick Out That Habit:
Quit Smoking – Even if you’ve tried to quit before and failed, don’t let it get you down. On average, smokers try about four times before they quit for good. Start enjoying the rest of your smoke-free life! Control your alcohol intake, excess is recess! Enjoy your life Given the hectic, stressful lifestyles of millions around the world in the quest for survival, it is no wonder that “enjoying life more” has become a popular resolution in recent years. It’s an important step to a happier and healthier you!

Try something new! Define your choices:
Give up the people or activities that don’t benefit you. If they aren’t beneficial, then they are wasteful. Time is a commodity, which no one can afford to waste.

Manage your finances:
Was money a big source of stress in your life last year? Resolve to get a handle on your finances. Never overspend, save as much as you can and as much as possible, don’t buy what you don’t need! It’s a promise that will repay itself many times over in the year ahead.

Learn Something New:
Have you vowed to make this year the year to learn something new? Perhaps you are considering a career change, want to learn a new language, or just how to fix your computer? Whether you take a course or read a book, you’ll find education to be one of the easiest, most motivating New Year’s resolutions to keep.
